How to Clean a Jetted Tub

A jetted tub is a luxurious addition to any bathroom, designed primarily for hydrotherapy purposes through powerful water jets. It helps alleviate muscle tension, soreness, and stress while also promoting a relaxing, soothing, spa-like experience and reducing anxiety.
However, to maintain that experience as truly relaxing, regular cleaning is essential. Over time, stagnant water in the jets can lead to a buildup—similar to soap scum, mold, germs and bacteria—that affects both hygiene and performance.
If you’ve ever filled the tub and noticed black flecks or murky water, you’re not alone—and it’s a clear sign your jets need a deep clean.
The good news? With the right method and trusted cleaning products like Lysol®Canada, restoring your tub to a fresh, hygienic state is easier than you think.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to clean your bathtub jets effectively, ensuring they stay spotless, fresh, and ready for your next relaxing soak.

How to clean a jetted tub
Follow the steps below for effective and reliable jetted tub cleaning.
-
To begin, use a dampened sponge or microfiber cloth to wipe away any visible dirt, dust, debris, hair, or other debris from the inside of the bathtub, especially from the rim.
-
Fill the bathtub with hot water, ensuring it covers all the jets by about 2 inches.
-
Add two tablespoons to ¼ cup of Lysol® Multi-Purpose Liquid Cleaner, depending on the bathtub size.
-
Unless instructed otherwise by the manufacturer to leave them open, turn off the air-induction valves to the jets. This will allow the water and cleaning solution to circulate through the internal plumbing of the tub for deeper cleaning.
-
Turn the jets on high for 15 minutes. The debris from the internal plumbing will begin to wash into the tub.
-
Turn the jets off and allow the tub to drain completely. Use a sponge or microfiber cloth to wipe away any remaining debris in the tub.
-
Fill the bathtub again with hot water, making sure the water level is at least 2 inches above the jets. Then, turn the jets on high and let them run for at least 15 minutes. After that, turn them off and drain the bathtub again.
- To help kill all the germs on the surface after you’ve done the cleaning above, pour a very small amount of Lysol® Multi-Purpose Liquid Cleaner on a toothbrush or scrub brush and clean the interior surfaces of each jet.
-
Unscrew the air intake control cover and scrub it with the liquid cleaner. Wipe away any residue with a sponge or microfiber cloth, rinse the cover thoroughly, and replace it.
-
Pour the liquid cleaner on the bathtub’s interior surfaces. It will cut through the tough grease, grime, and stains and remove 99.99% of germs, bacteria, and viruses.
-
Use a damp sponge or microfiber cloth to clean all of the interior surfaces.
-
Once you feel that all of the bathtub’s surfaces have been cleaned, use a bucket of water to rinse away the cleaning solution residue and the loosened contaminants.
-
Lastly, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe down the interior to prevent water spotting.
